On the other hand, if you’re under the influence of drugs or alcohol (or both), then you’re also likely to experience similar sensations as when you meditate deeply.
Believe it or not, some people even use meditation as a way to recover from drug addiction! Sounds impressive, right?
The reason is that meditation can lead to a natural high, which is why it’s considered a drug-free alternative to getting high.
This means that if you’ve ever felt that kind of sensation after meditating, it’s easy to understand why you might think that meditation can get you high.

Personally, the reason why I prefer this method to induce the natural state of “high” is that it’s not an external substance that I put into my body; rather, my mind and body are working naturally to achieve it.

So, here’s the thing: you can’t physically get high from meditation.
But you might feel relaxed, happy, and refreshed, like when you’re high.

It even has the same euphoric side-effects of being high: a feeling of deep joy, feeling relaxed, and a tranquil mind.
However, as you probably know, drugs are known for increasing dopamine levels in the brain. And guess what?
Meditation can also lead to hormonal changes — decrease stress hormones and increase serotonin in your body.

1) It increases dopamine levels in your body
Did you know that a “high” sensation is actually caused by the release of more dopamine in your bloodstream?
Considering this, you might wonder whether you can get high on all the things that are known for increasing dopamine levels.

What’s more, as I already said, meditation also helps you deal with stress and elevate your physical health by improving your sleep habits, lowering blood pressure, and reducing stress hormones.
That’s how it can help you improve your physical well-being. But what’s even better, practicing meditation naturally improves your emotional well-being as well.

There’s no need to consider using drugs in order to achieve the state of “high” when there’s a simpler way to do so without any side effects or negative consequences.

For example, when we are able to be more self-aware, we are able to notice our feelings and emotions before they manifest themselves into physical symptoms, like headaches or stomach aches, for example.
We are also able to notice our thoughts that might not be making us feel good about ourselves, so we can change our mindsets about them for the better!
And believe it or not, the moment when you acknowledge you’re completely self-aware is very close to the feeling of “high.”
But what does this mean in practice?
Well, it means that every time you do a meditation session or engage in another type of exercise or activity that helps you achieve self-awareness, it’ll help you become more aware of yourself.
And as a result, over time, you’ll be able to learn more about yourself — which means that you can increase your self-awareness in many different ways!
Remember that the more aware you are of your inner thoughts and emotions, the more aware you will be of yourself.
And the more aware you are of yourself, the more self-aware you’ll be and the better you’ll feel.
