Why should you use affirmations?

Affirmations are a powerful tool for self-help, personal development, and growth.

Affirmations are a simple yet powerful way to change your thoughts, beliefs, and actions.

Repeating affirmations daily will help you to hold a positive mindset that is conducive to success.

You see, affirmations can help you to develop the right mindset for success, which is essential if you are serious about improving your life.

And the best part?

Affirmations are a great way to build confidence, improve self-esteem, create positive thinking and develop a more positive outlook on life.

When you use affirmations daily you will find that your life improves in many different ways and that you start attracting more good things into your life.

You can use affirmations for anything!

You can use them for specific goals such as wealth creation or weight loss or you can simply use them as an everyday reminder of what is important to you (such as love).

The key is consistency and persistence!

How do affirmations work?

You might be wondering how affirmations actually work.

Well, it’s quite simple: your brain believes whatever you tell it.

If you keep telling yourself that you are worthless, stupid, or a failure then that’s what your brain will believe.

And if you keep telling yourself that you are smart, intelligent, and talented then your brain will believe that too.

The thing is, your brain literally can’t tell reality from your thoughts, so if you continuously think terrible things, your brain believes that this is true.

This is how we get caught in negative thinking patterns and self-limiting beliefs.

The good news is that your brain can’t tell the difference between a thought and reality, so if you keep telling yourself that you are happy, healthy and wealthy then your brain will believe it.

And if you believe it then you can achieve it.

Affirmations are a great way to reprogram your mind with positive thoughts so that you can attract more positive things into your life.

So by repeating positive affirmations daily, you are changing your thoughts and beliefs about yourself which changes your mindset and thus changes your actions which leads to success in life.

But what are those limiting beliefs I just talked about?

Limiting beliefs

Limiting beliefs are beliefs you have about yourself that limit you from achieving your goals.

They are often unconscious and they can be so ingrained into who you are that you don’t even realize they are there.

For example, someone who has a limiting belief that they can’t be successful might not even try to get a promotion at work because they believe that it’s not possible for them to do so.

Or someone who believes that they aren’t good enough might not ask the cute girl out on a date because of fear of rejection.

The problem with limiting beliefs is two-fold: firstly, it limits your potential, and secondly, it causes unhappiness in your life as you will never fully achieve what you want to do or become who you want to be.

Do you have limiting beliefs?

If your answer is “no”, then you’re probably just not aware of them.

You see, almost everybody carries some limiting beliefs from childhood that they have learned to be true.

The good news?

Every single limiting belief has something in common: they are all false.

How do you know which limiting beliefs you have?

Okay, here is where it can get a bit tricky.

You might have an idea of what your limiting beliefs might be, but sometimes, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what you’re believing and why it’s a limiting belief.

So, here are some questions (and answers) to help you identify your limiting beliefs:

  1. What do you believe is the root cause of all your problems?
  2. What are your biggest goals in life?
  3. What would it take to achieve those goals?
  4. Why haven’t you achieved those goals yet?
  5. Do you think that there is something that is stopping you from achieving those goals?
  6. How do you feel when you think about the fact that it has been a while since you reached one of your major life goals?

But that’s not all.

In order to identify your limiting beliefs, you can also try something else – a limiting belief meditation.

Now, to be fair, this usually works a little better if you have someone with you to help you do it, but I’m sure there are also videos of guided meditations out there that can help you out.

Essentially, you will want to get into a meditative state, and then upon hearing different limiting beliefs, you will feel into your body whether some of them feel true for you.

This sounds strange, but when I did it, it really helped me identify some of my limiting beliefs.

For me, personally, I got a feeling in my chest, as if something was constricting a bit.

I knew exactly which beliefs I did not hold in my body and which ones I did.

With a partner, it works well because they can tell you different limiting beliefs and see if you have any reaction to them.

Once you’ve identified your limiting beliefs, you can then work on them and change them.

So how do we get rid of these limiting beliefs?

Well, affirmations are a great way to reprogram your mind with positive thoughts which will overwrite those negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones instead.

The thing is, your limiting beliefs formed over months and years of continuously thinking the same thoughts, so it’s not going to happen overnight.

You need to be patient and consistent.

One way you can do this is by using a daily affirmation routine.

Every morning, you set aside some time to look at yourself in the mirror, and say out loud your daily affirmation.

This will help you program your mind with positive thoughts every day.

You can also write down your affirmations and post them around your home or work space for even more exposure to positive thoughts on a daily basis.

But the most important thing is to just keep doing it.

Don’t give up just because you feel like it’s not working.

It will take some time, but eventually, you will start to see changes in your life and in your limiting beliefs.

Because you carried those limiting beliefs inside of you for so long, they became a reality for your brain.

The thing is, what you perceive as reality is also what you will attract into your life.

So if you think you can’t do something, then you’ll attract to your life situations where you won’t be able to do it.

On the other hand, if you think that you can do something, then there’s a higher chance that you will succeed.

And that’s why it’s so important to change your limiting beliefs and start thinking more positively about yourself and about life in general.

What happens when you don’t change your limiting beliefs?

You might be wondering what happens if you don’t change your limiting beliefs.

Well, if you don’t change your negative thoughts about yourself and your life, then you will keep attracting into your life more of the same.

And that means that you won’t be able to achieve the goals you want or live the life you want.

If you want to achieve success in any area of your life, then it’s important to start thinking positive thoughts and believing in yourself.

Think about it: if you constantly believe you are not worthy of love, or that you are useless at work, then you will attract to your life situations where you don’t get a lot of attention from people.

Or maybe you’ll attract a boss who doesn’t think you’re good enough to be promoted.

The thing is, we will attract situations that reaffirm that belief we have about ourselves, which is obviously not a good thing!

However, when you flip the script, you will start attracting situations that affirm that new belief you have about yourself.

And that’s why it’s so important to change your limiting beliefs and start thinking positively about yourself and your life.

Are one-word affirmations powerful?

There are many types of affirmations out there, so you might be wondering if these one-word affirmations are as powerful as other types of affirmations.

Well, from what I’ve seen, they are actually more powerful because they are easy to remember.

And when you can easily remember an affirmation, you can say it more often, which makes that affirmation become a reality in your life.

So if you want to change your life and attract all the good things that you want into your life, then start saying these one-word affirmations daily and watch how your life changes!

How to use affirmations properly

So there is no real “proper” or “improper” way of using affirmations.

That being said, there are a few situations when using affirmations is very powerful.

In front of a mirror

One of the most powerful ways to use affirmations is to say them in front of a mirror.

This is because you can see yourself saying the affirmation and it can help you believe in yourself more.

When you look into your own eyes while saying an affirmation, you are able to see if you really believe it or not.

If you don’t, then that’s okay because saying the affirmation in front of a mirror will help you believe it more.

And if you can’t say the affirmation with conviction, then just say it anyway and mean what you’re saying.

It won’t be super effective the first time, but with practice, your affirmations will become much more powerful.

And in turn, they will bring into your life everything that you want and desire!

You can make this a daily practice by doing this while brushing your teeth or getting ready, for example!

Simply pick some affirmations that you will remember and repeat during your morning routine.

During meditation

Another way I love to use affirmations is during meditation.

I have found that this is the most powerful time to use affirmations because you are able to focus on your inner self and connect with your soul.

During meditation, you connect with who you really are, so it’s the perfect time to say affirmations that will help you improve your life and attract all the good things that you want!

You can also incorporate your affirmations into a guided meditation!

For me, using affirmations has really helped me to improve my meditation practice as I use them as sort of a mantra.

This gives me something to focus my attention on while I meditate and then I can really connect with my soul.

Mantras are certain words or phrases that you say to yourself over and over again in order to help you focus on the present moment and to bring more awareness into your life.

You can pick any affirmation that you like for your mantra, but I like using affirmations because they are so powerful!

When you say them as a mantra, it helps to reinforce what you are saying and it will be easier for you to believe in them.

I will sometimes literally sit there and repeat the same sentence to myself for 10 or 20 minutes while meditating.

When you choose the right sentence, you will come out of the meditation feeling amazing!

I love using affirmations during meditation because of how powerful it is!

When you feel triggered

Last but not least, another powerful time to use affirmations is while you are feeling triggered.

Whenever you feel like you’re about to lose control, say your affirmations to help yourself.

For example, if you are feeling frustrated because of a certain situation, then it would be very beneficial to say something like “I am calm and in control” or “I am confident and happy.”

This will help you feel more relaxed and in control so that you can be successful in whatever situation is occurring.

You can also use affirmations to help yourself when you are feeling anxious, sad or depressed.

I have a few affirmations ready that truly help keep me from spiraling when things get a bit tough.

One of my favorites is “I choose to let go.” This is for when things from my past come up and start to trigger me.

I use this every time it happens and it helps me to stay calm.

You can use your own affirmations or make up your own.

The more you use them, the more powerful they will become!

Final thoughts – there are no rules

To end this article I just want to emphasize the point that there are no rules when it comes to using affirmations.

You can use them when you feel like it and when you feel like it works for you.

The more you use them, the more powerful they will become as well.

If certain affirmations feel “cringey” to you, then ask yourself why, but don’t feel pressured to use them.

Choose the words and phrases that resonate with you and that you believe in.

I personally use affirmations every single day and I’ve never been happier!

I hope you enjoyed this article and that I’ve helped you gain a new perspective on the power of affirmations.
